Limestone paving in Geraldton.

Limestone is the Mid West's signature coastal paver: pale, cool underfoot, and completely at home against Geraldton's sky and sea. We lay natural Geraldton limestone and reconstituted limestone for alfrescos, entries, courtyards and pool surrounds, sealed against the salt so it holds its colour for years.

Why limestone belongs in Geraldton.

There is a reason limestone is everywhere from the heritage streets near the Geraldton foreshore to the newest coastal estates: it simply belongs here. The pale colour reflects heat rather than storing it, so a limestone alfresco or pool surround stays walkable on a 40-degree February afternoon when a dark paver would be too hot for bare feet. The natural texture gives grip when it is wet, which is exactly what you want around a pool. And the soft, sandy tone sits beautifully against the blue of the Mid West coast.

The one thing limestone asks of you is sealing. Limestone is a porous, natural stone, and in a high-salt environment like Geraldton an unsealed surface will eventually pick up salt marks and stains. We apply a penetrating sealer on completion, which soaks in rather than sitting on top, protecting the stone while keeping its natural look. A re-coat every few years keeps it performing. Sealed properly, limestone is low-maintenance and ages gracefully.

Natural versus reconstituted.

  • Natural Geraldton limestone: Genuine local stone with real character and subtle colour variation. Varies more in size, so it takes more cutting and fitting. The right choice for heritage and character homes where authenticity matters.
  • Reconstituted limestone: Crushed limestone bound into a consistent, uniform paver. Same cool, pale look with predictable sizing, quicker to lay and a little cheaper. Our usual recommendation for modern homes.

Where limestone earns its keep.

  • Pool surrounds: Cool and non-slip, the natural pairing. See our pool surround work.
  • Alfresco and entertaining areas: Comfortable underfoot all summer, and it photographs beautifully.
  • Front entries and paths: A pale limestone entry lifts the whole front of a house and pairs well with a brick or concrete driveway.

A worked example.

A typical limestone job is a 35 square metre rear alfresco on a Tarcoola Beach or Wandina block, laid in a sealed reconstituted limestone paver. That comes in around $4,500 to $6,000 in 2026, including the compacted base, laying, cutting to the house edge and the sealing coat. Natural Geraldton limestone on the same area, with its extra cutting and fitting, sits a little higher. The pricing page has the full per-square-metre rates, and you can often run the limestone up against a contrasting brick path for a real Mid West look.

Limestone paving questions.

How much does limestone paving cost in Geraldton?

$110 to $170 per square metre supplied and laid in 2026. Reconstituted is at the lower end, natural Geraldton limestone with more cutting at the upper end. A 35 square metre sealed alfresco is around $4,500 to $6,000.

Is limestone good for a coastal town?

It is the signature coastal paver: pale and cool underfoot, naturally non-slip, and suited to the Mid West look. It does need sealing because it is porous, and we apply that on completion.

Natural or reconstituted?

Natural limestone has real character but varies in size and needs more cutting. Reconstituted gives the same look with uniform sizing, quicker and cheaper. We recommend reconstituted for modern homes and natural for heritage homes.

Does it need much maintenance?

Not much. Sweep, hose, and re-seal every few years. The key is not leaving it unsealed in a high-salt spot like Sunset Beach or Drummond Cove, where salt will mark an unsealed surface.
