Of everywhere we work, Tarcoola Beach is where the coastal conditions matter most. The Geraldton Doctor, the strong afternoon sea breeze, arrives almost every summer day and carries salt straight off the water onto your paving. The most common failure we are called to fix here is not cracked pavers, it is jointing sand that has simply blown and washed out of the joints, leaving the pavers loose. The fix is a stabilised or polymeric jointing sand that binds and resists scour, and we use it as standard on every Tarcoola Beach job.

The paver matters too. Near the coast we favour dense clay brick pavers, which barely absorb water and shrug off salt, and sealed limestone, which gets a penetrating sealer so the porous stone is protected from salt marks and staining. We steer clients away from cheaper porous pavers left unsealed, because in this spot they will mark and degrade faster than anywhere else in Geraldton.
Sandy ground, fast drainage, but it still needs a base.
Close to the beach the ground is deep, fast-draining coastal sand. That is good for drainage but a trap for the base: loose sand moves under load, so paving laid straight onto it without a proper compacted sub-base will rut and dish. We excavate, lay and compact road base, and often use a geotextile separation layer so the base does not sink into the sand. It is the unseen work that makes a coastal driveway hold its shape.
